Yep, it even made me say “Wow.” NASA released animated images from the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite showing the “ultimate cosmic photobomb.” The moon passes in front of the Earth. This will be a trending story on traditional and social media for a few days.

As self-driving cars get closer to the point of being street-legal, the engineers designing them are recognizing that the decision-making they build in embodies something like ethics ? and are consulting with philosophers about how best to do that.

It’s Wednesday, and that means that it’s time for Google to update some of its Android apps. This time around, its Google Keep and Google Slides that are getting updates.
First up, Google Keep’s update will let you easily copy one of your notes to Google Docs. Simply select the note that you want to copy, hit the overflow menu, and tap “Copy to Docs.” BAM. You’ve got your Google Keep note in Google Docs.
The second update is for Google Slides. The app’s latest version will let you share your Slides presentations to video Hangouts calls, letting you conduct presentations from your phone or tablet. The app will automatically list your meetings, show you who’s on the call before starting the presentation, advance slides, view speaker notes, and use the built-in timer.
Both of these updates are now rolling out in the Play Store, so keep an eye out for ‘em in the coming hours and days.

It was announced earlier this week that the German trio of BMW, Daimler, and VW (Audi) will pay about 2.71 billion Euros and acquire HERE. The consortium is planning to hire more software engineers to continue the path-breaking work done by HERE in the field of navigation and vehicle automation. While the deal value is much lower than the rumored $4 billion-plus that Nokia was asking for and the $7 billion-plus that Nokia paid while acquiring Navteq, the idea of turning HERE into a platform that can be used across the auto OEM community is novel and could change the way this industry does innovative development. HERE is the ideal choice for these OEMs to prevent Google from gaining an upper hand in this market. The surprising part is the omission of VW from the roster of OEMs considered by the consortium to provide HERE’s platform for free without a licensing fee, because VW has just signed a five-year contract with TomTom; instead it includes FCA, Renault, PSA, Ford, GM and Toyota. Despite all of these minute details, the promise from the consortium to not to interfere in HERE’s operational business and to us it as an open platform will do greater good for this industry.
