OnePlus 2 passes 2 million invite requests after one week

After a week or so of having its invite request page up, OnePlus is now announcing that more than 2 million people apparently want to get their hands on a OnePlus 2. Or at least on an invite for the phone.

Unlike what happened with the OnePlus One last year, this time around the Chinese company will issue invites to people on the waiting list created on that dedicated page. This is arguably the easiest way to grab a OnePlus 2 invite, though it may not turn out to be the fastest.

At the moment, the exact count is 2,384,338. That many people have requested an invite for the OnePlus 2. While this number is incredibly big (and keeps growing), you shouldn’t forget that wanting an invite (or even getting it) does not necessarily mean making a purchase. Then again, if even 10% of those people do actually intend to buy a OnePlus 2, it looks like it will be quite the success,…

OnePlus 2 surpasses two million reservations in less than two weeks

However unconventional the OnePlus reservation system may be, it appears to be working for them yet again as they have crossed two million reservations for the OnePlus 2 in less than two weeks.

Flagship killer or not, that’s a very respectable number, but it has to be taken with a grain of salt given that there is no guarantee how many of those tossing their hat in the ring for an invite are going to actually follow through when their time comes. That’s particularly true if OnePlus can’t deliver the phones at a considerably faster pace than last year as we head into the release of the Moto X Style and potentially multiple Nexus devices aimed at a very similar demographic as the OnePlus 2.

While the OnePlus 2 compromises sit well with some, they strip away one of the most highly touted features of the last year (quick charging), some features that appear ready to finally explode this year (NFC based payments) and the promise of USB Type-C falls short with the lack of support for faster charging and data transfer.

This upper mid-range class of devices seems to be hitting a sweet spot for a lot of consumers that are not willing to shell out several hundred dollars for a smartphone, but still crave something more than what the true budget devices have to offer and in that spirit I’m glad to see OnePlus experiencing success again as it will continue to put the pressure on others to deliver similar value to consumers.

‘Crackdown 3:’ Microsoft Says The Cloud Can Make The Xbox One 13 Times More Powerful

Microsoft has been talking about leveraging cloud computing to supercharge the Xbox One since before the console even launched, and if reports coming out of Cologne are accurate, Crackdown 3 might finally be the game to make that dream a reality. Crackdown 3 comes with two modes: one is playable offline, and should be pretty familiar to fans of the series. It’s the online mode, however, where things get really interesting. The team is promising a full, 100% destructible environment, where players might be able to blow the base out of a building in order to topple it into another one and take out a crime boss in a symphony of rubble and fire. It’s the sort of sandbox fantasy developers have been questing after for years, and developer regent games says that they’ve been able to leverage the computing power of Microsoft’s cloud to actually make it happen.
