Vuelven a aparecer rumores sobre el desarrollo de una tablet enorme por parte de Samsung

Hace un par de semanas salían a la palestra los primeros rumores sobre la aparición de una tablet de Samsung de 18,4 pulgadas. Sí, es una filtración un poco extraña, pero lo cierto es que el tamaño de la tablet tampoco es muy usual que digamos.

Según apuntan en SamMobile, la que de momento sería la Samsung Galaxy Tab más grande jamás creada se dejó ver en una lista de carga. En dicha lista iban una serie de productos que iban a entrar en la India para su prueba y evaluación. Por desgracia no existe ningún tipo de filtración sobre esta nueva tablet, y no lo habrá durante una buena temporada: Las tablets que se incluían en la lista se destruirán en cuanto las pruebas acaben.

Después de instigar la moda de las tablets Samsung está haciendo experimentos con una tamaño king size. ¿Es una locura? La verdad es que suena un poco a eso, 18,4 pulgadas es casi un monitor de ordenador normalito o una televisión pequeña. De hecho, ya es más grande que muchos ordenadores portátiles.

El número de modelo y alguna especificación: Lo poco que se sabe

Según la información que se ha filtrado a SamMobile, el nombre en clave de esta gigantesca tablet es Tahoe y lleva el número de modelo SM-T670. Su pantalla utiliza tecnología TFT LCD en lugar de las pantallas Super AMOLED características de la firma coreana, y su resolución es FullHD. Los que soñasen con una pantalla como las que hemos visto en modelos como los Samsung Galaxy S6 se llevarán una decepción, ya que el número de píxeles por pulgada con esas dimensiones desciende a 120.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, borde inferior

En cuanto al procesador, supuestamente se trata de un Exynos 7580 –un SoC propio que entraría en la gama media– completado por 2 GB de memoria RAM. Su almacenamiento interno rondará los 32 GB y se dice que se podrá ampliar vía microSD. En cuanto a la batería, para un dispositivo tan grande se tratará de una unidad de 5.700 mAh. Por lo que respecta a las cámaras –ya puede ser ligera la tablet para sostenerla en alto…–, serán de 8 megapíxeles y 2,1 megapíxeles en los sensores trasero y delantero, respectivamente.

Las intenciones de Samsung pasarían por vender esta tablet para trabajos de oficina y educativos, manteniendo su hardware en la gama media para convertirla en una herramienta asequible. En cuanto a cuándo podría estar Tahoe disponible, en la filtración se habla de que el sistema que tendrá por defecto será Android 5.1 Lollipop. Teniendo en cuenta que Android 6.0 Marshmallow está a la vuelta de la esquina deberíamos tener más información en unos pocos meses, si es que en algún momento llega a ser oficial.

Como siempre, Samsung no deja a nadie indiferente, ya sea para bien o para mal. ¿Qué opinas tú de este dispositivo?

Samsung rumored to be building an 18.4-inch Android tablet

While smartphone displays have been steadily increasing in size over the years, tablets have managed to avoid this, thanks in part to already having big-enough screens for most. But, if a new report pans out, Samsung could be looking to give the tablet market its injection of gigantic screens, just like it did with smartphones all those years ago.

According to SamMobile, Samsung is currently in the process of putting together an Android-based tablet that boasts a ridiculous 18.4-inch display. The device is reportedly codenamed “Tahoe,” and that display is said to feature a resolution of 1920×1080, with an 8-megapixel camera on the back, and a 2.1-megapixel camera on the front. It will also reportedly feature 32GB of built-in storage, and offer 2GB of RAM. There’s a microSD card slot for expandable storage, a Samsung Exynos 7580 octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, and the battery is said to be measured in at 5700mAh.

Breaking it down further, this tablet is said to measure in at 451.8mm wide, 275.8mm tall, and 11.9mm thick.

With a display that big, it’s hard to imagine Samsung would promote something like this as a mobile device, so it will be interesting to see just what type of marketing they put behind it. Would they honestly aim to promote it as a “PC kiiller” or even a “PC replacement?” Then again, Samsung might not launch the thing at all, so we may be waiting to see how they’d market an 18.4-inch tablet for a long time.

Samsung wants iPhone users to test drive the Galaxy Note 5 or S6 edge+

Samsung decided to make August its month in an effort to give its two newest flagships, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+, plenty of time in the limelight before Apple launched its own newest phones. Now, Samsung isn’t content on just announcing the devices: It wants iPhone owners to actually use them, too.

In this case, that comes with “no obligation,” other than just a single dollar and the current use of an iPhone as your primary device. Samsung is calling it the “Ultimate Test Drive,” and it will allow iPhone owners to try out either the Galaxy Note 5 or Galaxy S6 edge+ for 30 days for just $1. The promo also includes the regular Galaxy S6 edge. Those interested just need to visit SamsungPromotions.com from their iPhone’s Web browser, then follow the onscreen instructions to pick a carrier and device.

Unfortunately, as of this writing, it would appear that most of the test devices have already been picked up. Selecting any one of the AT&T-branded models only provides a “that device is not available right now.” However, some are having luck getting devices with Verizon or Sprint, so it’s at least worth trying. It’s always possible Samsung adds more devices, too.

It should be pointed out that Samsung will charge you either $720 or $820 for the full price of the device if you don’t return it within 30 days and skip the 5-day grace period, too. And, if you return the handset you test drove with a broken screen, water damage, or other major issues, Samsung will charge your credit card you put on file $100. So, keep the test drive clean.

Jolla Tablet now available on pre-order

The Jolla Tablet was successfully crowdfunded last year and it was targeted for shipping in fall 2016. It seems everything is going as planned as Jolla has announced the pre-orders for the Tablet are now open.

The 32GB Jolla Tablet costs €267, while the 64GB flavor will set you back €299. Both prices include VAT. The slates will begin shipping in late October. The pre-order campaign applies for the EU, Norway, Switzerland, United States, Canada, Australia, India and Hong Kong.

The Jolla Tablet is built around a 7.85″ IPS display with 1536 x 2048px resolution. It runs on a quad-core 1.8GHz 64-bit Intel processor, and packs 2GB RAM, a main 5MP cam and a 2MP front snapper, and a 4,450 mAh battery. The Jolla Tablet is powered by Sailfish OS v2.0 and can be purchased in 32 and 64GB models, both featuring microSD expansion slot.

There are no cellular-enabled versions planned for now.

Xiaomi Mi 4c spotted at TENAA, benchmarked already

Xiaomi Mi 4i was launched this spring as an alternative, more affordable version of the popular Xiaomi Mi 4. It features a 5″ IPS 1080p display, a Snapdragon 615 chipset and s wrapped in plastic instead of glass.

Today a new Xiaomi Mi 4c leaked from various sources – the Chinese TENAA certification body, AnTuTu benchmark database, and previously it was spotted on Geekbench results.

The pictures from TENAA reveals absolutely the same body and measurements as the Xiaomi Mi 4i. It seems the new Mi 4c is just a small upgrade over the 4i and will keep the slim profile and matte rear cover. Its footprint and weight are absolutely identical with its predecessor, too.

But while the Mi 4c will offer the same 5″ 1080p screen, it will bring an upgraded chipset – Snapdragon 808. The SoC, which debuted within the LG G4, packs a hexa-core processor with 2x Cortex-A57 at 1.8GHz and 4x Cortex-A53 at 1.44GHz, Adreno 418 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

The Android version has also been bumped up to 5.1.1 Lollipop, which suggests the Xiaomi Mi 4c will most probably run on the MIUI v7.

The rest of the specs confirmed by TENAA are the same as the Mi 4i – a 13MP main camera with dual-LED flash, a 5MP selfie snapper, 16GB non-expandable storage, LTE connectivity, and 3,100 mAh battery.

All of those leaks suggest the Xiaomi Mi 4c announcement should be happening very soon.

Es casi una tradición que, cada cierto tiempo Samsung mueva los hilos para hacer de un modo u otro algún tipo de campaña en contra de Apple. Porque ya no son sólo las guerras de patentes, cada año estamos viendo cómo uno saca pecho frente al otro y lucen de dispositivos para ver la valoración del público y quien obtiene más mercado que el otro. De nuevo, una vez más quieren demostrar a los seguidores de la manzana mordida que sus dispositivos son mejores, o bien superiores a los que ellos usan a diario y tras cada nuevo modelo que pisa el mercado cada cierto tiempo.

Samsung a por todas con su ‘Ultimate Test Drive’

Con el fin de ganarse a los usuarios de Apple, Samsung pone en marcha una nueva campaña en Estados Unidos llamada ‘Ultimate Test Drive’, que consiste en invitar a los usuarios poseedores de un iPhone a probar durante un mes entero, o lo que es lo mismo 30 días, sus nuevos dispositivos Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ y Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

Desde ahora, los clientes de las conocidas operadoras AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile y Verizon pueden registrarse a la promoción desde su iPhone y obtener uno de estos dispositivos con Android y ver con sus propios ojos hasta qué punto es superior al de Apple.

Por sólo un dólar, puedes probar uno de los últimos teléfonos de Samsung durante 30 días sin compomiso. Su kit de prueba vendrá con el teléfono elegido, una tarjeta SIM activada y una guía paso a paso para ayudarte a empezar a probar el smartphone.

Sin duda alguna van a por todas, y aunque es bastante limitado al escoger como entorno de pruebas a Estados Unidos, desde luego que conseguirán captar la atención del público y probar los nuevos buque insignia del fabricante surcoreano. Además, el requisito de un dólar que se carga automáticamente en tu tarjeta de crédito, solo es un seguro que se forzará a pagar en caso de pérdida, daño o no devolución una vez finalizado el periodo de prueba.

No sabemos hasta qué punto los requisitos son tan mínimos como parecen, pero sí que habrá métodos de seguridad que evitarán temas de estafa o similares, ya que siguiendo con la cita, por sólo un dólar, los usuarios más rebuscados obtendrían un terminal tope de gama de forma sencilla.
