What science says about meditation: it improves your focus and emotional control
Mindfulness meditation originated in Buddhist traditions and was first popularized in the West in the 1970s and ’80s. It’s become so popular that there’s an app selling meditation guidance, claiming that the practice will help you process emotions, focus and feel better throughout the day. But what does science say?

Soundcloud Is Being Sued In The UK For Failing To Pay Royalties

After months of rumors and posturing by big record labels and the like, legal action has finally been taken against Soundcloud for thousands of counts of copyright infringement.
The suit was brought against Soundcloud by PRS for Music, a royalties collection agency based in the UK. Essentially, PRS is claiming that Soundcloud does not pay any royalties on the music hosted on its site, which is of course a huge problem for the thousands of artists that the organization represents. In a letter to Soundcloud, the organization pointed to 4,500 different works which people can listen to on Soundcloud that are not properly licensed. 4,500 is likely just a fraction of the millions of unlicensed songs, samples, remixes and mashups that are streamed for free on a daily basis on the site, but it’s enough to make a case.

Press images of Sony’s Xperia Z5 leak, showcase 23MP camera and a familiar design

Sony’s Xperia Z4 launched with only a minimal amount of fanfare when it was announced back in April of this year, but if press images of the newest flagship from Sony are any indicator, then it would appear the Z4 probably was a stopgap device as the company prepped something new.

“New,” insofar that the new handset, as discovered by Xperia Blog view some press images, is indeed a new handset, even if it shares some obvious connections in design to its predecessor. According to the initial report, Sony’s calling the new phone the Z5, and it has a design that’s strikingly similar to the Z4, with at least one exception: The word “Xperia” is engraved into the side of the handset.

Of course, there are other changes, too. First and foremost, the camera has been upgraded to a 23-megapixel shooter, up from the 20.7-megapixel camera that was present in the Z4. The Z5 will also come in varying colors, as is usual for Sony, including a turquoise shade, white, and gold.

That’s not all the Xperia news, though. A recent post published by Sony Georgia, which has subsequently been removed, indicates that Sony will have quite the showing at this year’s IFA in September. According to that post, Sony will showcase the Z5 Compact with a 4.6-inch 720p HD display, the Z5 with a 5.2-inch 1080p screen, and, finally, a Z5 Premium with a 5.5-inch display with a 4k 2160p Ultra HD display. Finally, each of the handsets are said to be rocking the same 23-megapixel camera.

Nothing is official yet, but if it makes any Sony fans feel a bit better, these recent leaks reportedly line up with what serial leaker, Evan Blass, has heard from his own sources. So, take that for what it’s worth.

What do you think of the Z5?

‘Mad Max’ Is About To Have A Serious ‘Metal Gear Solid 5’ Problem

If you’ve been reading video game blogs, or viewing their advertisements, it would be pretty hard to miss the fact that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain comes out on Tuesday. It’s got a few things going for it, coverage-wise. It’s what looks like the last true installment in one of the most beloved franchises in videogames, it comes dogged with various sorts of controversy and, to boot, reviewers have been giving it near-perfect scores. Metal Gear Solid 5 is the game that’s here to kick off the fall release seasons, and it’s doing so with quite a lot of fanfare. But it’s not the only dust-oriented open world action game! WB and Avalanche’s adaptation of Mad Max is also coming out on Tuesday, but it risks getting completely overshadowed by its competition.
