AT&T making changes to its Mobile Share Value plans on August 15

With as often as carriers have been changing their plans, one might think they can’t seem to make up their minds. Verizon Wireless recently introduced new data plans and completely ejected two-year contracts from its offerings, and now AT&T is refreshing its Mobile Share Value plans, too.

Today the big blue carrier officially unveiled a series of new data bucket options for its Mobile Share Value plans, with a few key changes thrown in to keep people on their toes. Here’s how it breaks down, in a nice graph:

Screen Shot 2015-08-14 at 7.31.58 AM

The changes start with the 2GB for $30 plan, which is a nice compromise to the previous 1GB/$25 and 3GB/$40 plans that AT&T has ditched with this refresh. The carrier is also getting rid of the old 6GB/$70 plan, replacing it with a 5GB/$50 option instead. Previously, on AT&T’s Mobile Share Value plan option, there was a 10GB/$100 offering, but now that’s been boosted to 15GB for $100 per month. And, finally, AT&T is now giving subscribers access to its 20GB plan for $140 per month, down from $150 per month.

The wireless carrier also says that it will offer 25GB, 30GB, 40GB, and 50GB. The 25GB per month option will run subscribers $175 per month, but pricing for all of the other options haven’t been revealed.

There are still a lot of options for subscribers to choose from, especially when compared to Verizon’s ridiculously slimmed down offerings. Choice is usually a good thing so that subscribers might find just what they’re looking for. And the increase in data allotment for the $100 per month plan is a nice boost.

What do you think of the new plans?

Alleged LG Nexus 5 2015 render shown off on video

It’s been suggested that Google might launch two new Nexus phones in 2015 — one made by LG and one from Huawei — and now one of those devices may have been shown off.

A video that claims to shown a render of the LG “Bullhead” Nexus has been posted by uSwitch and @OnLeaks. The render, which is allegedly based off of factory schematics given to accessory makers, shows a device with front-facing speakers, a protruding rear camera, and a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. The bottom of the unit also houses a USB Type-C port, and the phone’s screen reportedly measures 5.2 inches.

The LG Bullhead’s dimensions are reportedly going to be 146.9 x 72.9mm x 8mm, though that protruding camera will allegedly stick out to 9.8mm. To compare, the Nexus 5 is 137.84 x 69.17 x 8.59mm.

Since this render is said to be based off of schematics sent to accessory makers, it likely lacks details related to colors and branding that the final phone will have. The render does give us a basic idea of what LG’s new Nexus might look like, though. And with a debut that might not happen until October, we’re betting that more leaks will fill in the detail gaps in the coming weeks.

XDA members found a way to side-load Google Play services on Windows 10 Mobile

Yes, you read the title right. Some skilled guys over the XDA Developers forum managed to side-load the entire Google Play Services package, including the Play Store, on to a number of Windows 10 Mobile-powered Lumia smartphones.

At first the process wasn’t easy, but after a few days it’s now much easier to do it by yourself. In case you are interested in doing so, you should visit the XDA thread.

Currently the compatible smartphones include Lumia 435, 635 with 1GB RAM, 730, 820, 830, 920, 925, 928, Icon, 930, and Lumia 1520. Those should run on Windows 10 Mobile.

Note that this may brick your device and void your warranty, so it’s recommended to be familiar what exactly you’ll be doing.

Last spring Microsoft confirmed Android and iOS app compatibility for Windows 10 Mobile, but it wasn’t supposed to be as easy as installing the entire Google framework. But who knows, maybe everyone should be able to install Android (or iOS) apps after some future Microsoft update. Apparently Microsoft is open to anything these days.

Leaked presentation slide shows Xperia Z5+ design

It’s not like you needed an image to know what the new Sony Xperia Z5+ will look like, but here’s one anyway. It looks like it was screen capped from an unfinished presentation about the upcoming phablet and it shows the classic Sony design.

It will stand out from the rest of its pack with a 5.5″ (or bigger) screen with 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160px). Anyway, the image shows the Z5+ in Sony’s three new favorite colors: Black, White and Gold but it seems to add a fourth one, Chrome.

You can barely see it in this image, but the side of the Xperia phablet will have a fingerprint sensor.

The Sony Xperia Z5+ may launch with the Z5 and Z5 Compact at IFA, though knowing Sony it could be held back to launch as an upgrade a few months later. Current info points to a Snapdragon 810 chipset though so it’s not clear how much of an upgrade it will really…
