My wife and I have one child and I am the cook. This forces me to divide the meals I make into thirds, or if our teenaged son is really hungry, into a half and two quarters. Being a mathematician who specializes in spatial mathematics, I usually find this to be a pretty simple task. However, I have an elliptical casserole dish that defies obvious division, so I decided to sit down and figure it out. Along the way, I re-discovered that quick estimates are often the way to go. According to a report by Business Insider, Facebook is working on a mobile app that delivers breaking news. The solution will allow the social networking giant to take on Twitter, which is a popular platform for following news.
Facebook’s product is reportedly in early testing and will allow users to follow various topics and receive breaking news from partnering media outlets. The latter will deliver instant notifications to all their followers the moment something newsworthy pops up.
The above mentioned alerts are said to contain up to one hundred characters of text and a link to the media’s website. Facebook has refused to comment on the subject.
