Los smartwatches son unos dispositivos que, poco a poco, se han ido introduciendo en la vida de los usuarios geeks, lo que no deja de ser un caldo de cultivo para que los hackers ataquen a los usuarios por ahí. La privacidad es sagrada, pero nos la jugamos demasiado rápido, y para más inri, un grupo de hackers de guante blanco –de los buenos– han descubierto que los datos almacenados dentro de los smartwatches no están encriptados.
El testeo ha sido llevado a cabo por el profesor Frank Breitinger, de la Universidad de New Haven, y los modelos elegidos para realizar las pruebas han sido diez, entre los que se encuentran el Samsung Gear S y el LG G Watch. Lo que los resultados del experimento vienen a decirnos es que nuestros mensajes, nuestros correos, nuestros contactos e incluso nuestro estado de salud pueden ser robado por hackers –de los malos–. Y eso no le hace gracia a nadie.
El Information Technology Industry Council y la Software & Information Industry Association han redactado una carta al mismísimo presidente Obama explicando que, aunque bajo ciertas circunstancias, los gobiernos pueden tener acceso a los datos de los smartphones, tablets o smartwatches de los usuarios, esto no debe llevar implícito que los datos ni siquiera lleguen a cifrarse. La carta, firmada por Jason Smichtt, Manager General de HP Security, expone lo siguiente:
Los smartwatches solo están empezando a ser parte de nuestras vidas, pero ellos portan un nuevo nivel de funcionalidades que podrían, potencialmente, abrir la puerta a una nueva forma de tratar la información sensible y las actividades del usuario. Conforme la adopción de los smartwatches acelere, la plataforma se irá haciendo más atractiva para aquellos que quieran abusar de ese acceso, haciendo crítico que nosotros tomemos precauciones al transferir datos personales.
La falta de encriptación de estos dispositivos hace que cualquier persona pueda acceder a nuestros datos personales, y pone sobre la mesa un interesante debate —al que os invito a participar en los comentarios— sobre hasta qué punto estamos dispuestos a ceder nuestra privacidad a cambio de recibir información en nuestra muñeca y vivir con el riesgo constante de que esta puede ser robada.
Bajo mi punto de vista, como usuario de un LG G Watch, creo que un smartwatch debe ser tratado con mucho cuidado. Estamos hablando de un dispositivo que va siempre en nuestra muñeca y nos monitoriza constantemente. Yo creo que, siempre y cuando sepamos tratar nuestra información con el respeto que se merece, no tendremos ningún problema, pero depende de cada uno el elegir qué cantidad de información cedemos y qué cantidad reservamos.

Samsung's grand unveiling of the Galaxy Note 5 will happen next week, on August 13. And as we get closer to that we're seeing it leak left and right, multiple times a day even.
It wasn't that long ago when we saw it getting benchmarked, hence having all of its specs revealed. And now we've got a new set of pictures to look at.
As you can see, this leak is all about going hands-on with the smartphone, and photographing a live unit from all possible angles. This is probably the best look we've had at it, at least if we're talking about an actual operating device.
At this point there are really no surprises left for Samsung to announce, when it comes to form anyway. As for specs, once again the phone is said to come with a spring-loaded slot for the S Pen, a regular USB port (no Type-C here, unfortunately), 4GB of RAM, no SD card slot, and 32 / 64 / 128GB of storage.
The battery will apparently be a 3,000 mAh non-removable cell, which is smaller than those in the Note 5's predecessors – but something we've seen before with the Galaxy S6 sporting a smaller cell than the S5.
And speaking of the Galaxy S6, the Note 5 looks like a blown-up version of that, with the added curves to the rear glass – which may make it easier to handle.
In software, the TouchWiz version installed on the Note 5 will let you customize the Air Command menu, as you can see in the first set of images (where Instagram is part of the options). Air Command appears when you take the S Pen out of its hiding place inside the phone.
Other previously revealed specs are a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED touchscreen, the Exynos 7420 SoC at the helm, a 16 MP main camera, and a 5 MP selfie unit. The Galaxy Note 5 will run Android 5.1.1…
