Sprint’s Galaxy Note 4 receives Android 5.1.1, important security fix

Sprint has started rolling out a new software update for its variation of Samsung's Galaxy Note 4. This will bring you Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which right now is the latest version of Google's operating system.

But it also comes with a very important security fix, which patches the vulnerability dubbed Stagefright – and which was discovered just a few days ago.

Additionally, there are some unnamed performance improvements and bug fixes inside the new software release. It is rolling out over-the-air, which means it might take it a few days to reach all the devices out there.

When yours is ready to get the new bits, it will pop up an update notification. After downloading the 615MB file and applying the update, you'll be on software version…

Turing Phone aims to bring both toughness and privacy to the smartphone

Privacy is a hot topic lately, though few do much about their lack of it. With both government agencies and the average computer nerd hitting random buttons on a keyboard to hack into your phone, everything you do on your technological devices may be seen and logged. Or at least that’s the idea.

The Turing Phone aims to add some security to your life. It features end-to-end mobile authentication to prevent anyone snooping on your data, since it even cuts out the middle man in authentication. It also features a Turing Imitation Key Chipset and a Turing-Unique-Identification X-RFID.

It’s also made out of a material they’re calling Lidquidmorphium. It’s a “liquid metal” alloy which is apparently stronger than both titanium and steel, which should mean this phone is tough. It’s fitting that a phone that’s tough to crack by hackers is also tough to crack by a clumsy owner.

Otherwise, it’s a pretty normal device. It features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 801 quad core processor, 3GB of RAM, 16/64/128GB storage, a 3000 mAh battery, and Android 5.1 Lollipop with Turing Æmæth UI on top. And it has a Wallaby Magstream charging port and included cable. The site has reservations open if you want yours!

Sony Has A Surprise Gift For Longtime PSN Subscribers

Playstation+ is five years old today, and Sony is celebrating. According to a recent post on the PS Blog, the company will be sending out special gifts to anyone that’s been with the service since day one. The company writes:

“To celebrate those of you that have been with us from the very beginning, a limited edition gift will be arriving in the mail for those of you that have been part of the journey since the very start. Think you may be one of them? Then keep a close eye on your emails as we’ll be getting in touch today.”

The distinction here between “mail” and “email” is an interesting one: it opens up the possibility of an actual physical gift, which would certainly be an improvement over a special raft of free games, or deals. I didn’t sign up for PS+ five years ago, so we’ll have to wait until the loyal subscribers start posting the reward to reddit to find out. Check back here later for more info.
