In the land of thin and light premium notebooks, otherwise known as ultrabooks, there is no shortage of options these days. Recently the market has been flush with fantastic options like Dell’s impressive 2015 revision of the XPS 13 and Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Carbon, to name just a couple. While these two svelte beauties are great PC/Windows alternatives to Apple’s MacBook Air or 13-inch MacBook Pro line, Asus may have quietly just delivered a very capable alternative to the more full-featured notebook class of products like the 15-inch MacBook Pro.

Rivet Networks recently launched its Killer Wireless-AC 1535, the second generation of its Killer Wireless-AC controller.  The Killer Wireless-AC 1535 builds upon the success of the original by introducing what Rivet is calling ExtremeRange technology, which is a fancy way of saying the controller features two external 5GHz signal amplifiers, in addition to support for 802.11ac Wave 2 features like MU-MIMO (Multi-User, Multiple Input – Multiple Output) and Transmit Beamforming. And all of those features, in conjunction with Rivet’s software optimizations and the right router / access point, result in 802.11ac wireless performance that can be significantly better than me-too solutions.
