Un repaso a todas las novedades que están llegando a WhatsApp

Hace escasos días, os hablábamos de WhastApp para enseñaros una nueva opción que está implementando, la de reducir el consumo de datos durante las llamadas VoIP. Sin embargo, esa no es, ni mucho menos, la única novedad que WhatsApp tiene en el horno, y es que en la última versión beta del popular servicio de mensajería instantánea de Facebook, ya podemos utilizar alguna más, y muy interesantes.

Entre ellas, destaca la de las notificaciones personalizadas tanto de chats individuales como de grupos. Si nos dirigimos a un contacto y entramos para ver sus datos, con esta nueva versión beta de WhatsApp nos aparecerá un nuevo apartado de “Notificaciones”, justo debajo del de archivos, y dentro del mismo, el subapartado de “Notificaciones personalizadas”. Además, como veremos en las capturas, también tenemos la opción “Slienciar”, por lo tanto, ahora también podremos silenciar chats individuales (hasta ahora solo se podían silenciar los grupos), por periodos de 8 horas, 1 semana o 1 año.

Lo cierto es que con las notificaciones personalizadas, WhatsApp da un gran paso hacia la libertad del usuario, algo que desde siempre se le ha achacado al servicio por sus pocas opciones, y más desde la aparición de Telegram. Ahora, por fin, podremos elegir para cada contacto y para cada grupo tonos específicos, el color del LED de notificaciones (para aquellos terminales que soporten varios colores), si queremos vibración o no y su duración, y si queremos o no notificación emergente, y de qué tipo.

Marcar como no leído, y copias en Google Drive

También se han implementado la característica de marcar como “No leído”. Si dejamos presionado sobre cualquier conversación, nos saldrá una ventana, y abajo de todo aparece esta opción. Al seleccionarla, esa conversación se marcará con un símbolo verde para diferenciarla. Una vez entremos, volverá a su estado natural. Puede ser útil para algún tipo de recordatorio personal.

Y por último, también hay una pista que nos dice que las copia de seguridad de nuestros chats de WhatsApp en Google Drive están a punto de llegar, tal y como se venía rumoreando. Si nos dirigimos a Ajuestes>Cuenta>Uso de red, y bajamos, veremos las referencias a Google Drive.

Parece que el equipo de WhatsApp se está poniendo las pilas para ofrecer novedades importantes a los usuarios. Sin duda, se trata de una de las actualizaciones más importantes desde la llegada de Material Design, WhatsApp Web, y las llamadas, pero esperamos que el ritmo no pare, y pronto lleguen más actualizaciones así de importantes. Sony starts rolling out Android 5.1 update to select Xperia devices

Sony has announced that it has began rolling out the Android 5.1 update for some of its devices.

The first batch of devices to get the update include the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, and Xperia Z2 Tablet. These devices have already started receiving the update.

The next batch includes Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra, which will get the update in the coming weeks. They will be followed by Xperia T2 Ultra, and Xperia C3, then the original Xperia Z, and then the Xperia M2, and Xperia M2 Aqua.

The update includes a bunch of changes, including changes to the silent mode settings, camera performance improvements with faster autofocus in Superior Auto mode, LinkedIn integration, enhanced enterprise support, and SmartWear integration with the ability to use the SmartWatch 3 as a remote…

Latest Language Tech Innovations Come From Synergies Among Entrepreneurs, Academics And Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh seems to have become a center for automated language learning with such companies as Duolingo, Carnegie Speech, Safaba Translation Solutions,  and WeSpeke headquartered there. In all, twelve language-based businesses have been identified as being started in the Pittsburgh area. The probable cause? Professor Jaime Carbonell founded the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University  in 1996. The LTI does research on speech recognition and speech synthesis, machine translation, computational linguistics, search engines, text mining, and language tutoring systems.  Carbonell describes the research method as combining “theory, experimentation and system building in collaboration with students, research staff, and faculty colleagues.”
