Asus launches ZenFone 2 starting $206 in India

After several teasers, Asus has formally introduced the ZenFone 2 in India with four variants. The new ZenFone 2 variants will be available for pre-order from Flipkart.

Asus has skipped the ZenFone 2 ZE500CL model for now and went ahead with other variants. Basically, there are two variants with 2GB of RAM and two variants with 4GB of RAM

Those variants bearing 2GB of RAM include the ZenFone 2 ZE550ML model with a 5.5″ 720p display, quad-core 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3560 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB built-in storage, which costs INR 12,999. The second variant brings the same CPU but a 5.5″ 1080p HD display and is priced at INR14,999.

ZenFone 2 ZE551ML with 4GB of comes in two variants – one with 32GB built-in storage for INR19,999 and the 64GB built-in storage for INR23,999. Both of those feature a 5.5″ 1080p display and the quad-core 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 chipset.

All ZenFone 2 models have some common set of features such as dual-SIM slots with 4G LTE network support. All variants feature a 13MP PixelMaster camera with dual-LED at the back while in the front will be a 5MP camera. Lumia flagships are put on hold as budget devices battle it out

It has become abundantly clear that Microsoft has been really working hard to gear its mobile business to the low-end, budget market segment and the strategy has definitely been yielding results. The company has been striking hard on huge emerging markets, such as India, where, according to analysis, around 78 percent of market demand is for phones in the sub $190 range.

This has forced Microsoft to put out competitive low-end devices, like the Lumia 520 and Lumia 535 and, rather naturally, neglect the higher-end market. In a recent statement Microsoft Mobile Devices Managing Director in India, Ajey Mehta reiterated that the company's current strategic goals are still targeted to the low-end market and was happy to announce that the Microsoft Lumia 535 has finally surpassed the Lumia 520 as the most-popular Windows phone device ever.

Both phones are clearly budget-friendly with a price tag of around $130 and the Lumia 535 is a clear upgrade over the older 520 model. But, even though, it offers a better qHD screen and a dual 5MP camera setup, the Lumia 520 is so vastly popular that dethroning it was considered almost impossible.

So, the US company has really settled in nicely in this specific market niche, but that leaves a lot of Windows Phone fans craving for fresh flagship devices. Mehta made it clear that Microsoft understood the need and importance of new premium devices, but made it clear that new high-end offers can be expected only after the official launch of Windows 10. We believe we have to offer the best possible experience to the consumers. Once we are ready with Windows 10 and our devices, that is the right time to launch.

So it appears we won't be seeing any new powerhouse Lumia devices before Windows 10 becomes official, which is expected to happen in the summer. In the meantime, we are left with the knowledge that Microsoft has regained its spot in the top 5 OEMs list in India with a 4.6% market share, which will, hopefully, give the company enough of a boost to really come through with future high-end devices.

Lenovo A5000 quietly makes its way to India for $162

The competition in the sub-$160 smartphone is really intense and hot. Lenovo is one of the companies aiming to gain ground in that segment, launch a host of models there. After introducing Lenovo A6000, A6000 Plus, and A7000, the company is soon expected to introduce the new A5000 at INR10,250 ($162), as estimated from a retailer Mahesh Telecom's post.

Yesterday, the A5000 was introduced in Russia for $227 which is way higher than the price set for India.

The A5000 features a 5" 720p display with special nano coating for prevention from water splashes. It is powered by a MediaTek MT6582 SoC with quad-core 1.3GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, 8MP rear snapper with LED flash, 2MP front camera, Bluetooth 4.0 and FM radio.

El LG Watch Urbane estará disponible en Google Play a finales de este mes

Si LG nos va a presentar a finales de abril su dispositivo tope de gama, el LG G4 y del que cada vez nos llega más información, parece que tampoco quiere olvidarse de los wearables, por lo que a la vez que nos enseñan su nuevo buque insignia, llegará a la tienda de Google Play su LG Watch Urbane, un smartwatch de aspecto premium, bonito y elegante.

El LG Watch Urbane –del que ya os dimos nuestras primeras impresiones durante el MWC de Barcelona– llegará a la tienda de Google durante finales de este mes y principios de mayo como muy tarde. Lo mejor de todo es que desembarcará en un total de trece países, que según la propia LG son: Australia, Canadá, Francia, Alemania, Hong Kong, India, Irlanda, Italia, Japón, Corea, España, Reino Unido y Estados Unidos, que se unirán a Corea del Sur, país que podrá adquirirlo a partir de esta semana.

Estamos ante uno de los smartwatches más bonitos del mercado, que viene a mejorar todo lo bueno del LG Watch R y que aunque de hardware son prácticamente calcados, se trata sin duda de una notable evolución. Además vendrá con la última versión de Android Wear, por lo que saldrá a la venta totalmente actualizado.

Por desgracia, LG no nos ha dicho el precio de este precioso dispositivo, por lo que si os interesa, todavía estáis a tiempo de ahorrar unos cuantos euros hasta que salga a la venta. Android Wear y sus relojes inteligentes son cada vez más populares entre la gente, la llegada del Apple Watch impulsará la venta de estos dispositivos, por lo que si queréis estar a la moda, mejor que llevéis un reloj elegante en la muñeca.

Xiaomi Mi4i presentado oficialmente

Hoy el fabricante chino Xiaomi ha dado un golpe en la mesa presentando su nuevo terminal, el Mi4i. Un terminal de gama media que entra a competir directamente contra otros dispositivos de las grandes marcas. Este nuevo dispositivo se ha presentado hoy en India y se podía seguir vía streaming desde su página web, aunque han tenido varios problemas durante su transmisión en directo.

Anécdotas a parte, el nuevo dispositivo de Xiaomi promete y mucho gracias a su pantalla, y no son por las características de ella, que serán de 5″ pulgadas con panel IPS y resolución FullHD, sino que por que esta pantalla es inteligente.

Siguiendo con las anécdotas de la presentación de este nuevo dispositivo, Xioami ha mencionado que la “i” que lleva al final del nombre del terminal es un homenaje a India ya que el fabricante se inspiró en ese país y la cultura. Así pues como era de esperar, la compañía lanzará primero de todo el smartphone en la India y después le seguirán otros mercados que por el momento no han sido mencionados.

Xiaomi Mi4i es un teléfono de gama media que cuenta con una pantalla de 5″ pulgadas con una resolución de 1080p fabricada por Sharp. Una pantalla inteligente que irá ajustando el contraste de cada pixel en tiempo real. En el interior del Mi4i encontramos un procesador Snapdragon 615 de ocho núcleos con arquitectura de 64 bits fabricado por Qualcomm junto con una GPU Adreno 405 para los gráficos y 2 GB de memoria de RAM. Otras características a destacar son su batería de 3.120 mAh con carga rápida incluida, una cámara frontal de 16 MP con apertura 2.0 y doble flash LED, cámara delantera de 5 MP, Dual-SIM, con Android 5.0 y un almacenamiento interno de 16 GB.

El nuevo smartphone estará disponible en cinco colores: negro, blanco, naranja, azul y rosa y será lanzado a finales de mes a un precio de 200 euros al cambio. India se convierte en el primer país en recibir este nuevo teléfono inteligente chino, aunque poco le durará su exclusividad ya que a partir de Mayo se el terminal se venderá en Hong Kong, Taiwán, Singapur, Indonesia y Malasia. Por el momento los ciudadanos del continente asiático serán los primeros en disfrutar de este terminal de gama media, ya que los demás mercados tendremos que esperar a que llegue de manera oficial o comprarlo mediante algún que otro distribuidor.
