Portan las apps de la funda QuickCircle del LG G3 a la QuickWindow del LG G2

LG G3 QucikCircle Hace unos días os hablábamos de la posibilidad de tener la misma interfaz del nuevo LG G3, que ya hemos analizado, en su sucesor, el LG G2, que también ha pasado por nuestro banco de pruebas. Además de tener la oportunidad de incluir la última versión de Optimus U en el tope de gama de LG de 2013, también se añadían funciones extra como la grabación 4K que originalmente no era soportada de forma oficial por el equipo.

Ahora, gracias de nuevo a desarrolladores de la comunidad, como vemos en XDA Developers, las características del LG G2 se han vuelto a ver ampliadas, pero en esta ocasión gracias a un complemento. Como sabéis, junto al LG G2 se ponía a la venta su novedosa funda QuickWindow, que a través de una pequeña ventana, serviría para mostrarnos cierta información sin tan siquiera abrirla para tener que acceder a la pantalla del teléfono directamente. De la misma forma, el LG G3 también aparecía con una nueva funda, en este caso la QuickCircle, que sustituye a esa ventana rectangular por otra a modo de círculo, y que a su vez, ofrece nuevas y más funcionalidades.

Pues bien, ahora las aplicaciones exclusivas de la funda QuickCircle del LG G3, han sido portadas a la QuickWindow del LG G2, por lo que los usuarios del modelo de 2013 podrán emular en parte a los usuarios del más moderno sin tener que adquirirlo. Estas son las apps hasta el momento portadas:

  • Reloj digital
  • Música
  • Registro de llamadas
  • Teléfono

Para hacer uso de ellas, es necesario tener acceso root, así como recovery y ROM modificados, por lo que no funcionarán en el último firmware de stock oficial con Android 4.4.2 KitKat. La instalación es sencilla, teniendo solamente que descargar el archivo .zip que aparece en el hilo de XDA, e instalarlo vía recovery.

Una vez más, la comunidad vuelve a alargar la vida de nuestros smartphones.

“Get a grip, HTC!”: the problem with the One (M8)’s design

Time and time again, we hear about the wonders of aluminum phones. I’ll admit, I’ve joined the masses in singing aluminum’s praises. But is the metal perfect? No! Does it have problems? Yes! And which phone can’t be mentioned without reference to its aluminum design? The HTC One (M8). In this brief rant, we take a look at why this design has flaws and what HTC can do to fix them.

Note: I’m a proud owner of an HTC One (M8) who has oft sung praises to its metal design. In case you haven’t noticed, I love/hate it.

Right off the bat, HTC needs to balance its phone. The One (M8) is a tall, tall phone that’s also narrow. To use it comfortably and reach all parts of the screen, you have to do some hand yoga. Flipping the phone around raises the probability that you’ll drop it, so this issue needs to get sorted out with the next device in the series. Just shrink the phone vertically and perhaps make it a touch wider and it’ll be good to go.

But here’s the biggest problem: the One (M8) is like a slippery bar of soap. The Gunmetal Gray model in particular struggles with this issue, slip-sliding out of your hand all the time. And it doesn’t have to be your hand; whether it’s on your desk, your pocket, your bed, the phone just slides around.

The problem is quite clear: it’s easy to drop the One (M8) when it practically shoots itself out of your hand. So what’s the remedy? Well, you could get a case to put on the phone, but you then lose out on the upsides of metal. You could try and rub off some of the finish and coating, but you probably won’t have much success. In fact, the only real answer lies with HTC. While the One (M8)’s metal design is great, it’s impractical if HTC doesn’t change things up.

HTC first needs to balance out the height and width of the One (M8). Then it needs to either add some texture to the back or switch to a different coating that makes the phone less slippery. In short, HTC needs to get a grip.

Se filtran nuevas imágenes del Sony Xperia Z3, esta vez con detalles

Estas imágenes que os ofrecemos hoy podrían ser consideradas como las primeras fotografías semi-confirmables de lo que próximamente podría ser el siguiente tope de gama de Sony, el Xperia Z3. Ya se filtraron otras imágenes hace unos días que mostraban cómo luciría el panel frontal de Z3, más o menos. Pero en esta ocasión las fotografías son algo más definidas y con más detalle, y sí, el panel frontal coincide con el que ya se vio. Además, en Andro4all ya hemos dado cobertura a otra rumorología surgida en torno al terminal.

Este lote de imágenes incluyen una captura del panel “Acerca del teléfono”, así que ya se puede empezar a especular con respecto a sus especificaciones y qué version de Android ejecutará. Por lo que se ve en las imágenes, parece que la ROM que incorpora tiene el nombre interno de L55t, siendo L50t la del Sony Xperia Z2, con lo que actualmente debería estar usando Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

La filtración confirma algo que muchos ya sospechaban, y es que el Sony Xperia Z3 montará un procesador Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 con cuatro núcleos a 2,5 GHz de velocidad y una GPU Adreno 330, a raíz de lo que se ha podido ver en las imágenes. Las capturas también muestran lo que parece ser la misma lente Exmor RS de 20.7 MP que llevaban tanto el Sony Xperia Z1 como su sucesor inmediato.

Por lo que ya pudisteis ver en las imágenes que adjuntábamos cuando se escribió el primer artículo hablando del Sony Xperia Z3 hace un mes, el diseño parece muy cercano al del Sony Xperia Z2, sin muchos cambios radicales que se puedan destacar.

Mientras las filtraciones siguen llegando, puede que veamos un posible lanzamiento que podría estar previsto para el IFA de Berlín de este año. ¿Qué opináis vosotros de las nuevas filtraciones del Xperia Z3?

Google Glass creator leaves Google, heads to Amazon

We have seen some amazing stuff come from Google X. I think self-driving cars may be my favorite (though as a car guy, I’d never own one), but there have been other achievements as well. Google Glass is one that graduated to a product that’s currently being sold in a sort of “public beta test.” Google Contact Lenses are another that sported circuitry that can monitor blood glucose levels.

Unfortunately, the creator of both Google Glass and Google Contact Lenses has left Google. Babak Parviz gave no reason for the departure, but it looks like his new job will be at Amazon. While both are excellent companies, it’s hard not to think that people like that would do much better at Google thanks to its ability to create some crazy things, but maybe Amazon has its own team of crazy inventors.

We wish Babak Parviz the best at his new job and hope he can achieve some more amazing things. Google Glass is undoubtedly an impressive device, so it’ll be interesting to see what comes next. And if anything, Amazon has the power to pull off some crazy stuff just like Google does.
