For more than a year, my friend Adam Cogan, a Tesla owner from Sydney, Australia, has been a regular user of the beta software that allows hands-free operation of his Model S. In April, he accompanied me on an assignment to the town of Tumbarumba, in a remote area of New South Wales where charging stations were unlikely to be found and so he opted to take a Toyota SUV and leave his Tesla at home. Just hours into the drive he found it tough going.
