Maybe you’ve heard by now that Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Fourth of July, but about the Battle of Puebla, where the commanding French army was pushed back, against all odds, by Mexican forces. But if you know those two facts, you probably know little of that seems to matter in the United States, where Cinco de Mayo gets arguably more attention than in Mexico itself.
