Despite the scandal surrounding Volkswagen and its diesel engines that dominated the final months of 2015, the vehicles we drive today are cleaner, more fuel efficient, safer and faster than they have ever been since Karl Benz first fired up his Patent Motorwagen in 1886. The dramatic improvements we’ve seen in all of these areas can largely be attributed to the development of sensors, actuators and electronic control systems to manage it all.
