Way back in 2007, it was becoming clear that corporate average fuel economy standards were going way up in the coming years. As automakers tried figure out how they were going to meet those new mandates without pricing themselves out the market, the management team at Ford Motor Company downsized, turbocharged gasoline-fueled engines would be the heart of their strategy. With a bit of help from the marketing team, the era of EcoBoost was born and this year Ford is on pace to sell more than 1 million examples in the U.S. for the first time.
