You guys need to calm down. The java edition of Minecraft isn’t going anywhere.
I am and have been for many years, a map maker.
After the release of the unifying update trailer today, all of these inanely confused and misguided players are screaming about the death of the java edition and how we are forgotten.
You are the death of the java edition. Stop.
Look at the recent update the java version received. I know that on the surface everything just looks like basic content with a few colors added here and there but under the hood the java edition went through a monumental change that is laying a new foundation for the modding community.
Functions, Advancements, and Loot Tables. These three things are merely the beginning of a greater shift toward a fully supported internal system to be used by mod and map makers. I can only imagine that using the json format, we will see custom blocks, items, effects, animations, and entities within the next update.
If you are unaware of the FULL power that functions and advancements have on the game, then you should either take a moment to learn about it, or pipe down and keep your misguided opinions to yourself. This game is far from dying and is taking huge leaps forward with every content update, leaps that the "unified" minecraft version will never see.
I think that a lot of people need to understand that the Unified version is the equivalent of a PUG server on an FPS game. They are meant to be quickly accessible, easy to pick up, and a simple experience to the core gameplay of minecraft. They are not and likely never will be what the Java Edition is. They will never be an openable and modifiable .jar file with resource packs and a powerful command architecture.
Why on Earth would the developers put so much effort into making resource packs, functions, advancements, and loot tables for a version they are planning to dump in the trash? That's an awful lot of work for something that will never see the light of day on the unified version.
Also, it's not an "Us vs Them". I know that concept is really hard to wrap your head around, but the faster you do the better you will feel about every step this game takes forward.
