Minecraft 1.12 – Better Builds and Atmosphere (Big Suggestion)

A Better Look: Because the Minecraft 1.12 building update is all about building, I came up with a lot of block ideas and suggestions for the update. There’s a lot potential for this update, and a lot for those who enjoy building. Most of these ideas are for building, and also just making Minecraft look better.

As you’ll notice throughout this list, I’ll make some comparison to SEUS Shaders 1.11, because I think things like these should be taken into consideration for Minecraft itself. Things like how OptiFine connects blocks such as glass should be taken into consideration, again, to making things more pleasing to the eye. Nobody likes seeing the white splotchy lines on the ends of glass line up. A mild Shaders engine should be an optional option in the Minecraft menu.

The Beach Biome: One idea for making Minecraft look better is improving the beach biome. The beach biome has been the same for the longest time, and may need to be updated. I suggest the addition of palm trees, something I spent a while texturing. Seeing a village made of palm wood or some tropical house made of palm wood would truly boost the beach’s atmosphere. As inspiration from the MHF_CoconutB and MHF_CoconutG skins, I have textured a brown and green coconut. Another source of milk would make milk used much more often by players, especially those without cows in their area. Here are some screenshots, statistics, additions, and the textures for the items described:

Palm trees are found on beaches.

Palm trees will have very bright green leaves.

Palm trees can grow in sand, similar to Sugar Cane.

Coconuts restore 4 (2 whole) hunger, and will be found off of palm trees, green or brown.

Coconuts will fall randomly, and if the player ends up under the tree, the coconut will damage the player for 4 hearts.

Coconuts can be placed with buckets in a Crafting Table to make a Milk Bucket.

Green Coconuts only restore 2 (1 whole) hunger.

Beige Dye: A new dye in Minecraft wouldn’t be the best or worst thing for the game. Beige would be an okay color to introduce to Minecraft, or at least something to add more to desert builds. This section is what I am least proud of, but I am proud of how the terracotta lines up. This also gives more uses to cocoa beans. The terracotta I showed off really represents a Middle Eastern look. The beige concrete powder looks like sand, and could make for a nice mixture. I aimed for a slightly darker and greener look on the hardened clay. This is the most out there suggestion, but I think it could be useful. Here are some screenshots, statistics, additions, and the textures for the items described:

Overall Improvements: Okay, now I’ll talk about things that are not in one category, but would be a lovely addition to any build, adding color and depth, possibly a new style. Since the introduction of the new update and concrete, the thought of stucco came to me. I think stucco would be nice for basement walls, and would be a unique addition. It doesn’t have to look like diorite. They are used in completely different ways. Another wanted item by many is snow brick, along with slabs and stairs. Builds in the snow would look so much better with snow brick, a whole lot more improved. They also look nice as flooring. And, there are not many blocks that fit the snowy theme. Something I am astounded is not brought up often is how bookshelves have no variation. Bookshelves for every wood would offer more flexibility in builds. Themes would more easily be met. As the game has stonebrick, there is no brick for the other three stones. Andesite, Diorite, and Granite would get a new use if they had bricks, not only adding a bigger palette to bricks, but adding some more variation.

The more vegetation there is in Minecraft, the more atmospheric I feel it is. It’s always surprised me that with all the vegetation, bushes are still not in Minecraft. Small bushes would make forest feel all the more better. Berry bushes would not only look just as good, but serve the better purpose as easy food for the player when they start. Berry bushes will be easy to come across, and when mixed in with other vegetation, would look very nice. Bushes would also be good for building. If someone is building a detailed forest, or even just a replica of their house, bushes would be an option to become familiar with. Speaking of vegetation, oceans are a bland biome in Minecraft, and vegetation would be the key for a better look. They don’t need drops, but seeing coral and tall kelp would give a forest-like feel to the ocean. This would mean water flowing through the textures, which is something long overdue in Minecraft. Fences, iron bars, and some other items should not create a block sized bubble when place, and instead fill with whatever liquid they’re in. This also applies to the air pocket created by slabs. I want to mention what I think is the most necessary item in Minecraft. Ever since the introduction of pumpkin pie, I have been waiting for apple pie. Though it may be random, it must make its appearance. For me, it is the most long-awaited item. I do not have any texture for this next item, but I think it would be a unique and innovative decoration item. I am talking about the chalice. Making a chalice in Minecraft would show how rich someone is, most likely made with an emerald and some gold. Now, for some things I think are very long overdue. As their are stone slabs in Minecraft, there should be stone stairs. That would be excellent for building, and would be most seen on roofs of modern houses. Endstone Brick stairs and slabs should have been the first move made after Endstone Brick. Sandstone walls would be very helpful for building, and I think should be added to Minecraft. Sailing has been one of the most satisfying things about this game, and what if you could identify other sailors? Imagine sailors have their own representing banners held up high on their boat. Why can't you apply your banner design to your bed too? Mushroom blocks in the creative menu have been requested time and time again, and I think it is necessary that this is picked up on. Lastly, End Rods should have a separate item texture similar to a stick or a Blaze Rod. Here are some screenshots, statistics, additions, and the textures for the items described:

Snow Brick cannot be melted.

Igloos are constructed of Snow Brick, instead of Snow.

Bushes have the same probability to drop sticks as grass do seeds.

Bushes and Berry Bushes will be found mixed with flowers, grass, and ferns, and can even be found using bone meal.

Berry Bushes do not drop sticks, but drop berries three quarters of the time.

Berries restore 3 (1 and a half whole) hunger.

Kelp is commonly found in the Ocean Biome.

Kelp can grow up to 3 blocks tall in the open. This can be achieved with bonemeal.

Coral grows in sand in the Ocean Biome.

Apple Pie restores 8 (4 whole) hunger.

Apple Pie is crafted with an apple, sugar, and an egg in any order.

Sidenote: I worked pretty hard on this post, and hope it gets at least some recognition. I tried to make this list of ideas as close to default Minecraft as possible, not going outside the borders. All of my suggestions are things that would bring something new to the table. Also, everything new here was made entirely by me.
