Quark’s first big 1.11 update, and some other updates
It's Quark update time!
As always, if you're not aware. Quark is a mod that adds features that I would myself add to vanilla minecraft if I was at Mojang. The idea is to keep with the vanilla minecraft theme and feel while making the overall game better. Every feature in quark can be disabled individually, if you don't fancy it, and most come with settings to tweak them. Click that link in bold to check out all that it adds, if you're interested.
We have a bunch of new stuff today, including some features that have been suggested, asked, and begged for so many times I've lost count! Before I start running down the new stuff, let me just throw some important points out of the way:
- Quark now supports 1.11.2. Development has moved there, and new features will only be there.
- A new Misc module has been opened, to host features that won't fit too well in other modules.
- A while ago I made a thread asking for structures to add to Quark. The only ones that were implemented so far were Noodlor's dungeons, but the other ones I found interesting were noted down on the Trello.
- Did I mention a Trello? Yeah, we have a Trello now. Feel free to check it out if you want an idea of what's potentially upcoming.
- Last but not least, the Quark website had a bit of a makeover done to it. Check it out!
If you're looking for past Quark threads and changelogs (after me moving files in the site around, the images are broken, sorry for that):
Onto the new stuff!
-
- Quark generates a "low priority resource pack", which tweaks some vanilla textures and models.
- Andesite, Granite, and Diorite get a smoother look.
- Bricks get a bit of color variation.
- Glass has a cleaner texture without stripes.
- Pistons get a model resembling the Pocket Edition pistons, made by /u/MushirMickeyJoe. Sticky Pistons also get a side texture to show they're sticky when not extended, made by /u/Xisuma.
- Pumpkins lose their face (this one is disabled by default).
- Each of these can be turned off individually.
-
- Changed the way 1.8 stones generate in the world, to an uncommon large cluster based generation, rather than sporadic small pockets
- Thanks to this you will often find entire caves made of one stone type, it looks quite nice.
- Added Marble and Limestone as two new blocks that spawn with this method, both featuring all the variants you'd expect for blocks of this type
- All of the stones' generation rates can be configured, or set to the vanilla method, individually
-
- Rare large underground caves, containing cave crystal blocks of two different random colors
- Cave crystal blocks come in all the 7 colors of the rainbow, as well as a white variant, and emit a medium amount of light
- Crystal caves also contain a bunch of scattered valuable ores
- Cave crystals can be turned into Runes, if that feature is enabled, providing an alternative way to get the basic spectrum of colors
-
- Quark now includes /u/MCNoodlor's Dank Dungeons (original album)
- These dungeons spawn alongside the vanilla dungeons, but the amount of dungeons you'll find in a world will remain about the same
- The dungeons were modified from the originals, to not have emeralds in the walls, and to limit the amount of spawners and chests
-
- Vanilla pistons can move Tile Entities, blocks with extra data attached, such as Chests or Furnaces
- Attempting to move a block into an invalid position will cause it to break and drop its contents, so you can't use this to hack in triple chests 😛
- Slime blocks are supported
- A configurable blacklist exists, for blocks that shouldn't be moved. By default it only contains the vanilla monster spawner
- Demo Gif
- As a quick note, there is a bug that destroys items inside a dispenser/dropper if it would get immediately powered after being pushed. This only affects droppers and dispensers as far as I've tested, but try to avoid this behaviour until I can figure out how to fix it (I've tried!)
-
- Note Blocks get a new piano interface when right clicked
- Each note block note is mapped to a piano key
- The keys show the note name, and amount of clicks to get to it while being hovered
- If you prefer the vanilla click system, you can click the note block icon in the corner to use it
- Other players can hear the note block while you're in the interface, and each key on the piano is keybound, so you can play songs if you want to
-
- Crafted with 3 Soul Sand and a Soul Bead (from the Wraiths feature)
- If Wraiths are disabled, replace the Soul Bead with a Magma Cream
- When right clicked in the nether, it'll create a spirit (pictured), which will fly the general direction of the nearest nether fortress
- Demo Gif
-
Map Tooltip: Maps render in your inventory while hovering over them.
-
Duskbound Blocks: Fancy purple building blocks by /u/Nyodex, made with Purpur and Obsidian. The one in the middle is a Duskbound Lamp, made of Duskbound Blocks and an Ender Pearl.
-
Netherwrought Stone: A decent red building block, including a brick variant with a chaotic pattern. 4 netherrack makes 1 of these.
-
Stained Wooden Planks: Wooden Planks dyed of all the 16 colors of the spectrum, with a nice pastel palette so you can build with them without your eyes hurting! If Vertical Wooden Planks is enabled, you also get them in all the new colors.
-
Sturdy Stone: A new building block with the furnace texture, made with cobblestone and stone. Pistons can't push this block, so it can act as a replacement for furnaces now that they can be moved.
-
Better Stone Tool Crafting: Mix and match all stone and cobblestone types, as well as flint, to create your stone tools. This supersedes the previous Flint Tool Crafting feature.
-
Villagers want Emerald Blocks: And as such, will follow any players holding them, similarly to how animals do for their food item
-
Note Blocks emiting a mob sound will now take in account the note pitch, allowing you to make pretty creepy zombie sounds. They can also tell the difference between skeleton and wither skeleton sounds too
-
Shift-clicking an item in the inventory while in the crafting table gui will move it to the crafting grid rather than the hotbar
-
Rebalanced pirate ship chests again to be less broken in the amount of loot they give
And that's it for today. As always, these are only the new features since the last post. If you want to see all the mod has to offer, check out the link at the top of the post. You can also follow me on Twitter to get the latest updates on what I'm adding.
Have fun!
