It is human nature to try and secure what one considers his own. It is also human nature to display an insatiable urge to possess what one doesn’t consider his own. That’s the way it has been from the very beginning. The have and the have not, the rich and the poor, the merchant and the thief. As we swiftly progress towards a future that is entirely driven by the possession of data, the situation hasn’t changed, it has only adapted. Raw data is quite unarguably the costliest commodity in the world as of now. There is no limit to what the right kind of information can buy you in today’s world, so no doubt that a new generation of thieves has turned their greedy eyes towards this new line of commodities. In the 21st century, digital piracy presents itself as the single largest adversary of content generation, one that has been single-handedly responsible for the demise of some of the greatest franchises in the world.
