Pressure is mounting to decommission and dismantle four dams on the lower Snake River near the Tri-Cities in Washington State in order to save salmon runs. These include Ice Harbor, Lower Monumental, Little Goose and Lower Granite. But it’s not so easy. What energy source will be used to replace the 1,000 MW of low-carbon hydroelectric, and how will the dams be dismantled without destroying the river upstream and down?
