For the people not enjoying the upcoming update.
Alright, alright, I’ve heard enough already. So many people saying this update seems “modlike” and the new entities are “too complex”, let’s just look at what has happened.
First thing first, this is MY opinion on the new update, so don’t react wild over something I think.
I remember when I casually created a new world in Minecraft 1.2, and suddenly spawn right next to some massive jungle, with extreme trees not similar to anything I had seen in Minecraft up until that point.
This is how some of you guys probably feel about the new update coming out.
I truly believe that this is one of the best and most needed updates Minecraft has seen in a while. It really reignites the spark of adventuring around the Minecraft world.
I’ll start with the Llamas. The Llamas are a great addition to Minecraft, because it allows for massive amounts of items being transported at once, in a very mobile and genuinely cool fashion. They aren’t controllable when ridden (which makes horses still a thing). Imagine putting 5 full shulker boxes into 4 Llamas each. This also provides better storage for auto-farms, mobtraps, iron-farms etc.
I understand why Mojang wanted to create a diversity in “passive” mobs (The Llamas are neutral, though) since it’s really only cows, chickens, sheep, rabbits and horses. It’s great to see new biome specific neutral, aggressive and passive mobs enter the world of Minecraft (Which reminds me that Strays, Husks and polar bears also are biome specific mobs that has been added recently). The fields of Minecraft have been empty for too long. The Llamas are also ranged, could possibly be used as a protector similar to ocelots and wolves.
And for those saying that the Llama model is too “complicated” or “complex”, have you ever thought that the normal Minecraft models are too plain and simple? Mojang have been adding details to most neutral mobs over the years, like horns and utters for the cow, snout for the pigs etc. I enjoy complexity, as long as it is needed. Remember the Llama and Horse are larger mobs as well, so it would probably look too “clunky” if they had simplified it more.
Second thing is, the “modlike” feel. There will always be those people saying, “It’s basically modded now”. And it is, kinda. Mojang inspires modders to create content, and modders inspire Mojang to create content. The horses in Minecraft are basically the horses from “Dr. Zhark’s Mo’ Creatures mod” but simplified. The taiga biome with podzol and mossy cobble rocks are most likely also heavily inspired by “Biomes O’ Plenty”.
This is only good, that Minecraft takes the good things from the mods, “minecraftify” it, and implements it. Imagine how Minecraft would be without pistons, stained glass, potions etc. all these things were inspired by mods.
Remember when they added the enderdragon, and how out-of-place it felt in the beginning? Yea, it’s all changed now. They made everything fit together really nice in the end, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they made the “Illagers” fit in as well.
The concept of these illagers aren’t exactly that new really, they are obviously outcasts like the witches, although inspired by vampires in their mansions. It is really nice to see a new endgame dungeon. I personally love the idea of more complex combat with the Envokers “spell” system, and if I could choose another feature for the Illagers (Love the pun btw, fits with Minecraft, makes me wonder why they didn’t use “pillager”), it would be that the axe wielding one would disable your shield once in a while. Doing this would make the shield integrated better into the normal Minecraft world.
The shulker boxes are also kinda modlike, in the sense that the backpack thing has been done in multiple mods before. Yet Mojang still managed to take the idea of the backpack, and “minecraftify” it so it would fit in, and still not be an early item (which is great). The shulker box also allows for some sweet storage systems.
The curse system seems a bit weird, but that is probably because I don’t know how they’d implement it yet, maybe on loot found in the woodlands mansion? The curse system would probably be used in adventure maps, but I haven’t thought of a way for what yet.
All I all, I personally look forward to meeting the Cartographers, the Illagers, the Llamas and start exploring again.
TL;DR: Embrace it, it’s only for the better. Please let me know if I made spelling errors, grammar mistakes etc. I am not a native speaker of English.
