Taiwan-based chip manufacturer MediaTek has hit a milestone for its modem technology as it will soon be qualified on all four major US carriers. This is an accomplishment that even Intel’s modem technology is not presently capable of – because it lacks the CDMA modem used for legacy 3G coverage by Verizon and Sprint. It has been a long road for MediaTek and they have made significant investments in developing & purchasing the technology to get to full worldwide carrier coverage. As proof that this is finally paying off for the company, MediaTek announced that a new LG X power Android phone, with MediaTek helio P10 processor, will be available on Boost Mobile and Sprint, which uses legacy 3G CDMA, in addition to LTE with carrier aggregation. This positions MediaTek as a company that can provide a global modem technology for handset manufacturers.
