Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy. According to the Small Business Administration, there are 28 million small businesses (with 500 or fewer employees) in the United States, representing 54% of all U.S. sales.  These small businesses represent 49.2% of all employment and 64% of net new jobs in the private sector.
