Shanghai, a rich metropolis of 24 million people, has reemerged as one of Asia’s top business hubs in the past two decades, attracting regional multinational headquarters from the likes of GE, Fedex and Kimberly-Clark. Yet a limited supply of local talent is holding back efforts to build up the city as a technology center, a senior foreign banker warned at Startup Grind entrepreneur conference in Shanghai on Saturday.
