Enthusiasm generated by the avalanche of news apparently heralding the age of the driver-less car has obscured the fact that the technology may not be ready for prime time. Robot cars may appear within 5 years, but they might well be severely limited in range to small, safe and predictable areas, they will be slow, and might not appear if the weather turns nasty.
