Should America Be The First To Use Nuclear Weapons, Again?

Obama Administration is thinking about adopting a No First Use policy for nuclear weapons, in which the U.S. would declare that we will never be the first to use nuclear weapons in any conflict, under any circumstances. This is in contrast with our policy for the last 60 years, where the United States could, under certain circumstances, use nuclear weapons against an enemy state, even if that enemy state had not used one first. This approach, known as calculated ambiguity, has worked for 60 years, and no one knows if changing this would be good or bad.
