Since its original publication in 1880, a number of women have helped to keep the epic tale of Ben-Hur alive. Despite the new film version’s rather one-dimensional development of its female characters, the women who supported, rewrote, produced and made costumes for the various iterations over the past 136 years are much more dynamic.
