Even though the United States has the highest number of fixed and mobile broadband subscriptions (375 and 100 million respectively) among all OECD countries, it lags far behind other developed nations in terms of connection speeds. Many initiatives have been launched to improve the situation, such as Google Fiber. While efforts have proven successful in eliminating sluggish connection speeds in cities, the same cannot be said for rural areas that lack the proper infrastructure.
