Ford and Baidu’s investment comes after Velodyne developed a new Lidar sensor that is smaller and more affordable. Scanning Lidar has the ability to generate a detailed point cloud of all the objects around a vehicle and in some cases can even recognize certain types of targets such as vehicles and pedestrians.
