Bounce House Heat Risks: Why We Did The ‘1st of Its Kind’ Study

Do inflatable bounce houses pose a heat risk for kids? This question frankly never crossed my mind until I watched my son sweating profusely inside one on a hot summer day a few years ago. It concerned me so much that I got inside the bounce house, and it was oppressively warm and humid. I think most parents are aware of risks associated with bounce houses like broken bones, sprains, and bruises. The scientific literature is also rich with studies about such hazards. In a comprehensive 2012 study it was found that from 1995 to 2010, there was a 15-fold increase in the number and rate of bounce house injuries such as sprains/strains and fractures.
