New York State Considers Nuclear A Clean Energy

Yesterday, the New York Public Service Commission approved a provision that values emission-free nuclear energy, finally recognizing that these power plants are essential to meeting the state’s goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 40% by 2030. But while renewable subsidies amount to 2.2¢/kWh from the Federal Production Tax Credit, and 2.3¢/kWh from New York State, the provision supporting nuclear only provides those reactors in Upstate New York with 1.7¢/kWh, and only for a couple of years. Nuclear plants not in Upstate New York get nothing. But it’s a beginning.
