AMD made some noise this week at the SIGGRAPH conference, when the company unveiled an innovative graphics card, called the Radeon Pro SSG, that pairs a Polaris-based GPU with large amounts of Solid State Flash Memory, to alleviate the issues associated with processing large datasets. The Radeon Pro SSG that was shown at SIGGRAPH was outfitted with 1TB of Solid State Memory that acts as an extended frame buffer, connected to the GPU via PCI Express, to keep large amounts of data close to the GPU and minimize the need to fetch data from system memory or the storage subsystem.
