The Popularity Of Weather Is Shaking Up Journalism

Weather is popular. If you don’t believe me go to Twitter and look at all of the handles with “Wx” in the name. “Wx” is a Morse code abbreviation for weather.  Weather enthusiast sites have sprouted like cumulus clouds on a summer day in Florida. Sunsets, tornadoes, and lightning have to be some of the most shared or retweeted imagery in social media. Traditional weather outlets like local/cable outlets, private companies and the National Weather Service are still there. Any card-carrying weather aficionado has listened to the legendary weekly podcast Weather Brains. I even a host talk show on The Weather Channel appropriately called Weather Geeks Sunday at Noon ET. In recent years I have noticed a new trend shaking up journalism, the rise of weather and climate journalism.
