Theranos announced July 7 that the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) had decided (among other sanctions) to ban Elizabeth Holmes — the founder and CEO of 13-year-old Palo Alto-based blood testing startup Theranos — from owning or operating a medical lab for two years.
