Recently, Nokia announced that it had completed the acquisition of Withings SA, a digital health products company based in France. The acquisition, which was announced just last week on April 26th, was completed ahead of schedule. This acquisition marks the formation of the digital health business unit of Nokia, which will be led by Cedric Hutchings, former CEO of Withings. This business unit will combine the employees of Withings and the preventive health and patient care teams in Nokia Technologies. And it will offer a wide range of digital health products. The $ 191 million acquisition will allow Nokia to increase its strategic focus on digital health and boost its existing portfolio of digital health products. Apart from activity trackers, the company plans to offer products such as thermometers, blood pressure monitors and baby monitors built on an advanced digital health platform. We believe the acquisition of Withings will accelerate Nokia’s efforts in this direction as it works towards re-establishing its brand in the consumer space.
