Intel has officially launched its next generation flagship 10-core killer desktop processor, code-named Broadwell-E, and there was little doubt the chip would light-up performance benchmarks with 20-thread processing and a beefy 25MB of shared cache at its disposal. In multithreaded tests, Hot Hardware shows the new top-end Intel chip leaving all other previous generation CPUs in the dust. And lest you think Intel took the approach of brute-forcing performance at the expense of power efficiency, consider that the new Core i7-6950X absolutely obliterates AMD’s fastest desktop 8-core FX-9590 chip with almost a 3X performance advantage, while still consuming significantly less power, either while idle or under full load. There’s just no substitute for manufacturing process technology, and at 32nm versus Intel at 14nm, AMD simply can’t compete currently. However, Broadwell-E also raises the bar over Intel’s previous generation Haswell-E flagship multi-core architecture, with new key intelligent core management and clock speed optimizations that afford the chip better performance across the board.
