An easy way to find your way back home when really lost

Apologies if this has been said before, but this could be helpful for newbies!

We've probably all been here at some point…

So I had put a lot of hours into my game and not died yet, so I never really needed to use my bed. My base was situated a very long way from the 'original' spawn and took a long time to find. I built a village, getting settled in on survival mode after etc.

I died. The bed was 'Obstructed' and so I ended up at square one with no idea how to find my town again.

I flew around in creative mode for an hour or so. I looked up a map generator for my seed to try and figure out where it had gone to… No avail.

I was all about ready to give up! UNTIL…

I looked at my minecraft logs!

  1. Locate your appdata minecraft logs

  2. There should be a readable (in notepad) file that says latest (This was too late for me)

  3. Open that, if it still has the time stamp from your first log on (presumably the place you want to be), it'll also have your co-ordinates of where you started upon log in!

  4. If not, just find the file closest to the time you started up the game for the day, it probably won't be a readable file unless you have a specific programme to read it. Worry not though!

  5. Search in Google for B1 Org online, and click the first link.

  6. Simply upload your file and in an incredibly short time you'll have a download link for a readable version of that file.

  7. Open it! Skim through and it should have your co-ordinates from when you logged in!!

I know everyone may be in a different situation but it does save a lot of time if you are in a similar boat as me!

TLDR; If you started your minecraft session in the location you wanted to be, but died and ended up very lost. Open your files and find minecraft logs, convert file (B1 Online), open new file – should have your co-ordinates of where you started! (Not default spawn points)
