Virtual reality and augmented reality have moved at a blistering pace, and excitement is rising. A recent CBS survey of global executives and IT professionals found that 67% are considering adopting VR and/or AR in their companies; 30% within the next three years. Apple, that juggernaut of innovation, has hired a VR researcher, ostensibly to compete with Facebook’s Oculus Rift and Google’s Magic Leap. We already know that VR and AR are being developed for the usual simulation exercises, testing, and computer modeling, but VR and AR also being developed for uses as widely varying as pain management (using VR distraction), firefighting, and of course, gaming.
