Apps that allow users to request a taxi cab, track the driver and pay for the journey via smartphone have gained increasing levels of traction in recent years. However, despite their increasing prominence, the vast majority of Americans have not used apps such as Uber or Lyft. A new study from Pew Research has found that while 72 percent of people in the U.S. have used some type of shared or on-demand online service, only 15 percent of them have used ride-hailing apps.
