Startling….that is all that I can say about new data released today. It shows that 2016 is on pace to make 2015 look “cool” even though it was the warmest year on record. By the way, notice I said warmest year “on record.” It is important to resist the urge to say “warmest year ever” because that is not an accurate statement as our climate system was warmer during the Hothouse climate regime. However, it s also not accurate to conclude that because a different climate system was warmer in the past (the planet was very different then by the way), the notion of anthropogenic climate change is flawed. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released its monthly update, and it is too hot to ignore (#2hot2ignore).  The data shows that 2016 is on pace to obliterate the 2015.
