Samsung is currently in a strong position after the release of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Plus. That early push into the retail market has brought a significant volume of sales into the first quarter period (which has allowed it to push a story of financial recover), estimates of the year-on-year sales comparing the S7 family to the S6 show notable gains, and its major competitive partner in Apple is struggling to maintain momentum in the press.
