I'm thinking about making these as a hobby but the pre printed ones are expensive and it's more expensive to buy a printer (don't have one)

Would it be better to collect some skins and mobs etc and have them printed at a shop or online service?

And if so what type of paper would be best?

If I had them done online I would need to be 100% sure the files will print correctly in size etc so reliable templates are a must.
