This is a hardworking trailer, this Assassin’s Creed trailer. It exists, it would seem, to assuage fears. That this is both a faithful adaptation of the game and it’s own thing, that we’ll have plenty of parkour and spinny blade work, that the animus thing isn’t total nonsense, that it’s okay to listen to Kanye West during the Spanish Inquisition, etc. Paul Tassi loved it, but I’m not there with it. Show me enough over the top stuntwork mixed with too much fanservice, and I’ll show you a stupid movie. There’s no rule that says we need to get a great video game movie any time soon, after all — call it the curse of the Leguizamo.
