If you’ve found yourself a little pressed for time as you’re leaping around as a monkey scientist or whipping chains around as Roadhog, you’re in luck. Blizzard just extended the open Beta for hero shooter Overwatch an extra 24 hours, giving you a little more time to play while giving them a little more time to collect that oh-so-valuable data. Spoiler alert: this happens with nearly every big beta these days. That doesn’t mean it isn’t better to have just a little bit extra, though. Here’s Blizzard:
“We hope everyone has been enjoying the Overwatch Open Beta. We certainly have! We’ve loved being able to play alongside you on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Over the last week, we’ve also had the opportunity to listen to your thoughts and opinions on the game; make improvements based on your reports in these very forums; and collect invaluable data just from you playing normally.”
So go nuts. I’ve put some time into the game, and I’ve been having a pretty good time with it despite not being a huge fan of competitive shooters overall. The key here is the character variety: if you find yourself consistently getting destroyed every time you run into a firefight, you can just switch things up and try a different character. You might still get killed, of course, but at least there’s something in there to play with. In a recent earnings call, Activision COO Thomas Tippl said that he expected the game to be the company’s biggest launch since Diablo 3 (also the copmany’s only AAA launch of a full game since Diablo 3, but hey):
