Lost And Found In Old San Juan (A Technology Story — Part I)

It’s a Friday afternoon in Old San Juan — the capital of Puerto Rico (USA) — and just like on my last visit, I am feeling at once amazed with the environment and at a loss to deal with it. First, I am hungry; whenever I travel, I struggle to keep up with the caloric demands of my self-imposed regime which almost always calls for long walks.  Second, I am tired; I flew in the night before, and had only gotten three hours sleep.  Third, I am lost. I mean that both figuratively and literally, as I seem to have a talent for straying just a bit too far from the planned journey on foot, despite my access to GPS (my iPhone) and the obvious landmarks in the old city — like the Moro fortress guarding against the Atlantic in the old city — which can guide even the most feeble out of the narrow alleys. But this year (it’s my fourth visit to San Juan since 2011), I have another problem. My left foot is killing me — the shoes I recently purchased do not fit — and I am fighting to keep upright on the blue cobblestones.
