I love the attention Nether gets in preparation for 1.10. There is still one long standing issue.

Those are the new blocks: http://ift.tt/1XdO1x2

This is a previous magma-like block: http://ift.tt/1T3OIWw

Notice how those blocks are lit by nearby lava. I’m not saying Jeb did this on purpose but if you think about it, most of the Nether isn’t lit by fire or lava.

This creates a big contrast problem. When you look at the Nether, most of it is uniform – there are no details to focus on. When you walk through the corridors of Nether Fortresses, it’s all a dark haze. Intersections and stairs barely register visually because they just all blend together.

One of the first tips for better building on this subreddit 5 years ago was about providing necessary contrast. Not building out of one block.

And this is my issue with Nether – no matter what type of blocks we’ll get, if they are dark or red, they’ll look like dark mush in Nether’s natural light conditions.

Outside of lava ocean providing contrast for floating Netherrack islands, it’s just so uniform in my opinion. Do you have any suggestions how to improve this situation?
