There’s a certain narrative in the industry that to move to software only represents complete and total failure. Everyone points to Sega, The Dreamcast, and the fall of a titan in the industry to prove this point. but the Dreamcast was a terribly long time ago, and the world of technology is just a mite bit different from then. You can make billions of dollars on software alone, just like you can lose billions of dollars on hardware. Releasing your games on competitor’s hardware is a tough, tough pill to swallow, but sometimes you’ve got to take your medicine. You can stand to make a lot more money in consoles than you can in software, but that’s only if you make any money at all.
