Virtual Reality has launched! Sort of! Both the Facebook’s Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive are officially commercial products, but even people who ordered headsets minutes after preorders went live are still more or less in the dark as to when they’ll be getting hardware, particularly with Oculus Rift. For these new technologies, revolutionary though they may be, the rocky launch means that even the faithful are getting a little testy. I doubt it’s going to matter much for VR in the long term, but it’s not great for the companies involved. These headsets are only two of the first major wave, and this gives whole thing gives Sony and its PSVR headset a big opportunity to provide us with the first genuine commercial launch of a modern VR headset.
