2017 Honda Accord Hybrid: Earth Day, An Aquarium, and 49 MPG

Honda has released information on its next generation Accord Hybrid. The 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid goes on sale this summer with a starting price around $31,000. That price will include the full suite of Honda Sensing technology as standard equipment, which means even a “base” Accord Hybrid will have adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with brake mitigation, lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and road departure mitigation. Two higher-trim Accord Hybrids, EX-L and Touring, will add features like leather seating surfaces and an upgraded infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new Accord Hybrid will use a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine paired with two AC motors to achieve higher horsepower (212 peak) and greater efficiency (49 city mpg, 47 highway mpg, 48 combined mpg) than the previous version. Those mpg figures are actually slightly down from the last Accord Hybrid, but the EPA test procedure shifted for 2017, reducing many cars’ numbers by 1-2 mpg. Honda assured us the new Accord Hybrid will be both more powerful and more fuel efficient than the last one. The automaker also reduced the size of the hybrid’s battery pack, resulting in greater trunk capacity (now 13.5 cubic feet), and added an aluminum hood to cut curb weight.
